When Lightning Strikes

We had an average thunderstorm in Nebraska last night.  A little lightning.  A little thunder. When we awoke, there was a larger-than-normal tree branch on the ground.

We figured it was a wind incident.  As it turns out, lightning had visited.

The branch up close.
The trunk of the tree.
Where the branch used to be.
The leaf after electricity went through it.
A half singed leaf.
This was our first experience with a tree in your yard being struck by lightning.  It was an eye-opening event and a great way to teach the kids about electricity!  (Here hoping that that our tree has a long life, despite the shock!)

I'm pretty sure there is a way to ground the tree so that may not happen again
